Chandigarh: Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Shruti Choudhry on Tuesday chaired a key meeting of the Departmental High-Powered Purchase Committee (DHPPC) of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department at the Civil Secretariat. Haryana Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, a detailed review was done on preparations for flood management in view of the upcoming monsoon season. During the meeting, the committee unanimously approved all 16 agenda items pertaining to the procurement of pipes and high-capacity water pumps for tackling waterlogging and flood-like situations across the state.
Notably, the State Government will spend more than Rs. 30 crore on the purchase of these equipment and materials.The Minister said that this initiative would significantly strengthen the drainage infrastructure in vulnerable and low-lying areas of the state.
Shruti Choudhry directed offices to ensure the timely supply of all materials related to flood control measures. She directed that suppliers must strictly adhere to the prescribed delivery schedules. Emphasising the urgency of preparedness, the Minister stated that any delay or laxity in pre-monsoon arrangements would not be tolerated, so that the public can be protected from the problems caused by waterlogging.
Shruti Choudhry said that the department’s primary objective is to safeguard every citizen and prevent agricultural land from being submerged due to flooding. Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda also appreciated the department’s efforts and said that these prompt decisions would prove to be game-changers in flood control at the grassroots level.
Senior administrative officers and technical experts of the department were also present at the meeting. They briefed the committee on the framework being adopted to ensure transparency in procurement processes and adherence to quality standards.
