New Delhi: The Delhi Police have apprehended a married couple following an intense three-day search operation in connection with the murder of a Delhi University assistant professor. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Devosmita Paul, taught at Shivaji College and was discovered dead inside her apartment at Satyam Apartments in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave.
The breakthrough came after investigators meticulously analyzed footage from over 100 CCTV cameras around the residential complex. Security cameras had captured a masked man and a woman entering the housing society and later leaving the premises separately, approximately 30 minutes apart, on the afternoon of the suspected crime. This vital lead allowed multiple specialized police teams to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects within three days of launching the manhunt.
The crime originally came to light on Thursday afternoon when the victim’s sister, Devarati Paul, arrived at the apartment. Concerned because her sister had not responded to telephone calls since the previous morning, she found the front door padlocked from the outside. Upon breaking the lock to gain entry, she discovered the academic lying dead inside the flat and immediately alerted the local police.
Forensic examiners and crime teams noted that the victim had suffered a severe head injury inflicted by a blunt object, alongside a slashed wrist. Initial assessments revealed no obvious signs of forced entry or ransacking, leading investigators to suspect that the victim knew her attackers. The New Ashok Nagar police station had registered a formal murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, culminating in the swift detention of the accused couple.
