New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against unidentified individuals following the death of a 31-year-old M.Sc. Physics student at IIT Delhi, officials said on Wednesday.
The student died on August 22 after allegedly falling from a building inside the institute’s campus. Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and examining whether anyone may have played a role in events leading up to the student’s death.
Student Entered Campus in Morning
According to the preliminary investigation, the student entered the IIT Delhi campus through the main gate at around 8 am on the day of the incident.
He subsequently went towards the Lecture Hall Complex, where he reportedly took a lift to the sixth floor. Police said he then allegedly jumped from the front side of the building.
The incident prompted an investigation by the authorities, who are now trying to establish the sequence of events preceding the student’s death.
Police Examine Circumstances
The case has been registered under provisions relating to abetment to suicide, with the accused currently listed as unidentified.
Investigators are expected to examine available evidence, including the student’s movements on the campus and other relevant circumstances, to determine whether there was any external factor that contributed to the death.
Officials have not disclosed further details about a possible motive or identified any person as a suspect so far.
The investigation remains underway, and police are expected to gather additional information before drawing conclusions about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
