Chandigarh: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has initiated suo motu proceedings after a controversial video featuring Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring surfaced online, allegedly showing him making caste-related remarks during an election campaign.

Chairman of the Commission Jasvir Singh Garhi confirmed that the body took cognizance of the matter after concerns were raised by Punjab Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur, who flagged the alleged use of derogatory language targeting Dalit communities.

According to the Commission, the video has triggered serious concern and has been formally taken up for investigation under its statutory powers. Officials stated that the matter involves allegations of caste-based remarks made during public campaigning, which prompted immediate intervention.

As part of the inquiry, the Commission has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Sri Muktsar Sahib to submit a detailed report through the Superintendent of Police by May 29, 2026. Authorities have also been instructed to examine the authenticity of the viral clip and collect forensic evidence.

In a significant step, the Commission has further ordered law enforcement agencies to obtain a voice sample of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring for forensic comparison with the viral recording. The sample, along with technical analysis, will be used to verify the credibility of the allegations.

Officials said the findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Commission once completed, following which further action will be determined as per legal provisions.

The development has added a new dimension to the ongoing political discourse in Punjab, with the matter now under formal scrutiny by both administrative and investigative authorities.
