Chandigarh: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been submitted in the Punjab and Haryana High Court highlighting the flood situation that recently affected both states. The plea demands the formation of a committee under the court’s chairmanship to identify the technical reasons behind the release of water that led to large-scale flooding.
The petitioner has expressed concern that unchecked water release, coupled with poor management of reservoirs, has worsened the crisis for local residents. The PIL also seeks judicial intervention to monitor relief and rehabilitation work so that essential services, medical aid, and financial support can reach the affected population without delay.
The High Court is expected to hear the matter soon, and its involvement could set a precedent for stronger accountability in disaster management across the region.
