Gumla (Jharkhand): Armed miscreants allegedly opened fire and looted 500 grams of gold ornaments worth over Rs 70 lakh from a businessman in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday evening on Puto Road, barely a few hundred metres from the Ghaghara police station, when the trader was returning home after shutting his shop.

According to police, three unidentified assailants, reportedly moving on two to three motorcycles, intercepted the businessman and carried out the robbery at gunpoint.

During the heist, the accused allegedly fired shots before fleeing with gold ornaments valued at more than Rs 70 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash.

Ghaghara police station officer-in-charge Mohan Kumar Singh said an FIR has been registered based on the victim’s complaint and an investigation is underway.

Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused, while teams are examining leads related to the daring robbery that has raised security concerns in the area.
