Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested two individuals, including a suspected sharpshooter, in connection with the criminal network of Kapil Sangwan gang, officials said on Saturday.

The primary accused, identified as Sumit Punia (25), a resident of Haryana’s Mahendergarh, was apprehended in the Dwarka area of the national capital. Police recovered a country-made semi-automatic pistol along with five live cartridges from his possession.

According to senior officers, Punia had been evading arrest in a 2021 encounter case registered by the Special Cell. During questioning, investigators discovered that he was allegedly working as a sharpshooter for the gang led by Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu.

The second accused, believed to be an arms supplier, was also taken into custody as part of the operation. Police said the arrests were the result of sustained surveillance and intelligence inputs regarding the gang’s activities in the region.

Officials added that further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network, including possible links to other criminal operations and the source of illegal weapons.

The arrests are being seen as a significant step in curbing organised crime in the capital, particularly networks involved in contract killings and illegal arms trade.
