Chandigarh: A 58-year-old special secretary, identified as Ganesh Arora, died on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly jumping from the sixth floor of the Haryana Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:45 pm, triggered widespread panic among the employees present at the building. Arora was posted in the office of IAS officer Hitesh Meena and reportedly stepped out of his office before the fatal jump occurred.
Following the incident, staff members immediately raised an alarm and rushed Arora to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16, Chandigarh. Despite their efforts, doctors on duty declared him brought dead upon arrival. The local police have initiated a formal investigation and are recording statements from employees and nearby witnesses to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Sources within the Secretariat have indicated that Arora had been visibly upset for some time regarding his current posting. Investigations also revealed that this was not his first attempt; colleagues had reportedly intervened and stopped him from jumping from the eighth floor earlier this week and from the seventh floor on another previous occasion. No suicide note was recovered from the scene or his office, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
