New Delhi: Google CEO Sundar Pichai met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday during his visit for the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

Pichai is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the summit on February 20. Upon his arrival in India, he posted on X, saying, “Nice to be back in India for the AI Impact Summit — a very warm welcome as always and the papers looked great too.”

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is being held at Bharat Mandapam from February 16 to February 20. The summit has brought together policymakers, AI industry experts, academicians, technology innovators and civil society representatives from over 110 countries, along with 30 international organisations, around 20 Heads of State or Government and approximately 45 ministers.

The event, described as the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South, aims to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in line with India’s vision of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (welfare for all, happiness for all) and the global principle of AI for Humanity.

In a special interview, Prime Minister Modi spoke about the growing influence of AI on India’s IT industry and the government’s strategy to strengthen the sector. He said India’s IT industry, which has long been the backbone of the country’s services exports, could grow to $400 billion by 2030, driven by AI-enabled outsourcing and domain-specific automation.

The summit forms part of a broader international effort to strengthen global cooperation on AI governance, safety and societal impact. Guided by three foundational pillars — People, Planet and Progress — the initiative seeks to promote human-centric AI that safeguards rights, ensures equitable benefits, supports environmentally sustainable advancement and drives inclusive economic and technological growth.
