Mathura: Mathura witnessed a tragic road accident early Saturday morning after a container truck collided with a passenger bus on the Yamuna Expressway, resulting in six fatalities and leaving another person seriously injured, police officials said.

The crash took place at around 2.45 am within the jurisdiction of the Sureer police station. The bus, which was travelling from Noida towards Rasulabad in Kanpur, had halted briefly on the expressway to allow a passenger to step out, officials added.

While the vehicle was stationary, a container truck approaching from the side reportedly lost control and slammed into the bus with great force. The impact proved fatal for six occupants on the spot, while one injured passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and carried out rescue operations. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and traffic on the stretch was restored after clearing the damaged vehicles.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident, and further details are awaited.
