Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann Govt Launches Year-Long Statewide Celebrations for 649th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji, Prepares Ground for Historic 650th in 2027

Garhshankar / Hoshiarpur, 4 February 2026: The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government on Wednesday formally launched year-long, statewide celebrations to mark the 649th holy Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj, beginning from the sacred land of Sri Khuralgarh Sahib, the revered birthplace of the great saint and social reformer. At the same time, the government laid the foundation for preparations toward the historic 650th Parkash Purab in 2027, which is planned to be observed on an unprecedented scale.

The launch of the celebrations infused Sri Khuralgarh Sahib with devotion, spiritual energy, and a sense of historic purpose. From this holy site, the Punjab Government announced that the observance of Guru Ravidass Ji’s teachings will not remain limited to a single congregation or event, but will be carried to every village, town, and household across Punjab.

Three-Day State-Level Event at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib

A three-day state-level programme has been organised at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib, marked by deep spiritual fervour and large participation of devotees. The programme will conclude on February 6 with the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, when Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will pay obeisance and offer prayers to Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj for peace, prosperity, harmony, and brotherhood in Punjab.

The event witnessed the presence of a large number of saints, spiritual leaders, and representatives of religious organisations, underlining the immense spiritual and social significance of the occasion.

Saints and Spiritual Leaders Grace the Occasion

Several prominent saints and religious figures attended the opening day, including Sant Kewal (Tap Asthan Sri Khuralgarh Sahib), President Sri Guru Sadhu Samparda Society Punjab Sant Nirmal Das Ji, National President Adi Dharm Mission Sant Satwinder Hira, Sant Dayal Nath Samundra, Sant Jagir Singh Nandachaur, Sant Dharmpal of Dham Chanan Puri Sahoura, Balkar Singh of Taggar Barara, Sant Ramesh Das of Sherpur, Sant Manpreet Das of Cheta, Sant Balwant Singh of Dhingrian, Satnam Singh of Pandori Sadhan, Sant Kuldeep Singh of Bassi Maroof, along with many other spiritual personalities.

Their presence reflected the collective resolve to spread the universal message of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj based on equality, compassion, and human dignity.

Senior Leaders and Dignitaries Pay Obeisance

Several senior leaders and dignitaries also paid obeisance at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib on the first day, including Cabinet Ministers Harpal Singh Cheema, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Harjot Singh Bains, Dr Ravjot Singh, and Lal Chand Kataruchak, Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Chairman Punjab SC Commission Jasvir Singh Garhi, Chabbewal MLA Dr Ishank Kumar, Advisor to the Department of Culture and Tourism Deepak Bali, and other prominent personalities.

Punjab Govt Committed to Historic 650th Celebrations in 2027

Addressing the media, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Government has resolved to celebrate the 650th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj in 2027 on a historic and grand scale.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has already started a year-long series of programmes from the 649th Parkash Purab itself to ensure systematic preparations for the milestone year.

“The core objective of these celebrations is to take the life, philosophy, and message of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj to every household in Punjab,” Cheema said.

He added that students in schools, colleges, and universities across the state will be sensitised about Guru Ji’s teachings, ideals, and immense contribution to social reform through special educational and awareness programmes.

Sri Khuralgarh Sahib – A National Centre of Faith

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated that Sri Khuralgarh Sahib is a major centre of faith for devotees not only from Punjab but from across the country. He said that Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj’s teachings inspire society to follow the path of equality, compassion, and selfless service.

He assured that elaborate arrangements have been made for the convenience of the Sangat and that multiple cultural, religious, and social programmes will be organised throughout the year as part of the build-up to the 650th Parkash Purab.

Teachings of Guru Ravidass Ji More Relevant Than Ever

Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh said that Sri Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj gave society a powerful message to rise above caste, discrimination, and social hierarchy. He emphasised that Guru Ji’s ideas are even more relevant in present times and appealed to people to adopt these teachings in their daily lives.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj’s life symbolises struggle, simplicity, and dedication to human welfare, adding that the Punjab Government remains committed to the development of religious places and better facilities for devotees.

Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said that the government is firmly committed to promoting goodwill, brotherhood, and equal opportunities for all sections of society in line with Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj’s teachings.

Strengthening Social Justice and Equality

Chairman Punjab SC Commission Jasvir Singh Garhi said that Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj’s teachings form a strong foundation for social justice, equality, and human welfare. He added that sustained efforts are being made to implement welfare schemes effectively for the social, educational, and economic upliftment of Scheduled Castes.

Chabbewal MLA Dr Ishank Kumar said that the state-level congregation at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib serves as a powerful spiritual centre for the Sangat and inspires people to follow the path of truth, compassion, service, and devotion.
