Jhajjar: A wave of sorrow swept through Gijarod village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district on Friday following confirmation that Mohit, a resident of the village, was among the 10 Army personnel who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district.

The fatal incident occurred on Thursday when an armoured troop carrier veered off a narrow mountainous road, resulting in the deaths of the soldiers on board. News of Mohit’s death reached his family and fellow villagers by Thursday evening, plunging the entire village into mourning.

As word spread, residents began arriving at Mohit’s home to express their condolences and stand by the bereaved family in their hour of grief. The village gram panchayat also initiated arrangements for the final rites, expected to be held after his body is brought home.

Mohit had joined the Indian Army five years ago, fulfilling a long-cherished ambition. He was the elder of two brothers and had been married just over a year ago. Villagers remembered him as disciplined, determined and deeply committed to serving the country.

Village sarpanch Naresh Kumar said he was informed about the tragedy by the district administration on Thursday evening and immediately conveyed the news to the family. He recalled that Mohit had worked relentlessly to achieve his goal of wearing the uniform and serving the nation.

Mohit had last visited his native village in November. His mortal remains are expected to arrive in Gijarod on Friday afternoon, following which he will be cremated with full honours, as the village prepares to bid farewell to one of its own.
