Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday described the alleged threat to the life of former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia as a serious matter, while hearing an urgent petition filed on his behalf.
Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri made the observation during the hearing of the petition moved by Majithia’s counsel, senior advocate D.S. Sobti, and listed the case for further hearing on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
During the proceedings, Sobti informed the court about a letter written by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, citing inputs received from a central intelligence agency. According to the letter, the banned extremist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) has allegedly planned to target Bikram Singh Majithia.
The ADGP Intelligence, in the communication, had alerted the ADGP Jails and the Special ADGP Security, urging them to take all necessary precautionary measures in view of the perceived threat.
Taking note of the submissions, the High Court permitted the petitioner’s counsel to file a fresh application in the matter, paving the way for further consideration of the security concerns raised.
