Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today chaired a review meeting of departments and undertakings related to the energy sector. He directed officials to conduct a scientific study on water evaporation from dams and reservoirs during the summer season, expressing concern over rising haze levels in various cities of the state. The Chief Minister emphasized the need to assess any possible link between water evaporation and increasing cloudburst incidents.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to analyze the rate of glacier melting in Himachal Pradesh and its impact on flood management and ecological balance. He noted that accelerated glacier melt poses serious environmental risks and disrupts the natural ecosystem, underlining the importance of data-driven planning and mitigation measures.

During the meeting, Sukhu reviewed ongoing construction projects in the energy sector and discussed the implementation of smart meters and feeder billing mapping. He informed that the completion of construction work on 13 hydroelectric projects has increased the state’s power generation capacity by 1,229 megawatts. Senior officials, including the Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister and other officers, were present in the meeting.
