Amritsar: The Punjab government has announced a local holiday across Amritsar district on Saturday, September 12, to commemorate the sacred occasion of the First Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

According to an official notification issued by the Chief Secretary’s office, the holiday will be observed across all state government administrative offices, boards, corporations, and state educational institutions throughout the district. The administration has also notified the closure under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, ensuring that designated banking and financial services in the jurisdiction will observe the shutdown.

The declaration comes in reverence to the monumental religious significance of the day, which marks the historic installation of the holy scripture at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib in 1604. Major religious programmes, Nagar Kirtan processions, and spiritual congregations are being organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in collaboration with various religious societies and devotees across Amritsar.

The state administration directed all concerned departments and civic authorities to ensure strict compliance with the directive, facilitating seamless participation for thousands of devotees expected to gather for religious events throughout the holy city.
