Jagraon (Punjab) — Incidents of murder continue unabated in Punjab, with the latest case reported from Jagraon, where a 32-year-old man was shot dead late Monday night. The victim has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, a former kabaddi player. Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation.
According to initial information, Gagandeep Singh was related to Aam Aadmi Party MLA from the Jagraon constituency, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, as her nephew. After being shot multiple times, the attackers allegedly went to Gagandeep’s house and openly announced that they had killed him and that his body was lying in the fields.
On receiving the information, family members and youths from the village rushed to the fields and found Gagandeep Singh lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Jagraon, where doctors declared him brought dead.
MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke reached the Civil Hospital soon after the incident and instructed the police to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused by working day and night. She stated that hooliganism of any kind would not be tolerated in her constituency.
Family members of the deceased said that Gagandeep Singh was a kabaddi player and often intervened when certain youths from the village harassed another kabaddi player, Ekkam Singh. They alleged that due to this ongoing dispute, a group of around a dozen youths shot Gagandeep dead. The family further said that Gagandeep Singh was the father of three children — two daughters and one son.
Station House Officer Kuldeep Kumar said that a firing incident had taken place in village Manuke and further action would be taken based on the statements of the family members. He added that the exact motive behind the murder is still under investigation.
