Jammu: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was shot dead by a fellow soldier inside an army camp in Jammu on Wednesday, triggering a major security alert.

Officials said the accused, identified as Sepoy Parul Sharma, opened fire on JCO Surjit Singh using his service rifle. The attack proved fatal, and the victim died on the spot.

After the shooting, the sepoy fled the camp, prompting security forces to launch an extensive manhunt. A lookout circular has been issued to trace and apprehend the accused, who remains absconding.

Senior army officers reached the spot soon after the incident, and an internal inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances and motive behind the shooting. The area has been secured, and coordination is underway with local law enforcement agencies to track the suspect.

Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
