Jalandhar: Jalandhar resident Sharandeep Singh, a native of Bhoepur village in Punjab’s Shahkot area, was reportedly detained by Pakistan Rangers after allegedly crossing the India–Pakistan border in the Kasur sector. The circumstances under which the youth entered Pakistani territory remain unclear, officials said on Tuesday.

According to sources, Indian security agencies have been informed about the incident and have initiated inquiries to verify the facts surrounding the alleged border crossing. The matter is being examined from both security and procedural angles, given the sensitivity of the international border.

Sharandeep’s father, Satnam Singh, had earlier approached local authorities and filed a missing person report after his son could not be traced. The family later learned about the detention, triggering serious concern over his safety and well-being.

Officials said coordination is underway through security and diplomatic channels to ascertain Sharandeep Singh’s status and facilitate necessary steps for his safe return. Both Indian and Pakistani agencies are said to be closely monitoring the situation.

Authorities have stressed that investigations are ongoing to determine how and why the youth crossed the border, and whether the incident was inadvertent or involved other factors. Further details are awaited as official confirmation is sought through established channels.
