Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday claimed responsibility for carrying out coordinated missile and drone strikes against US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain, saying the operation was launched in retaliation for recent American attacks on Iranian positions.
In a statement released through Iran’s state broadcaster, the IRGC said its aerospace and naval forces conducted a joint operation between 2:00 am and 3:00 am local time, targeting what it described as key US military infrastructure in the Gulf region.
According to the IRGC, ballistic missiles and armed drones were fired at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet located at Port Salman in Bahrain. The Iranian force claimed that eight strategic military facilities were destroyed during the overnight offensive.
Describing the action as a direct response to the latest US military operations, the IRGC accused Washington of escalating hostilities and said the strikes were intended to demonstrate Iran’s readiness to retaliate against any further aggression.
“The operation was a decisive answer to the recent attacks carried out by the United States,” the statement said, adding that the country’s armed forces remain prepared to respond to future threats.
The reported strikes come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington following renewed military exchanges in the region. The Gulf has witnessed increased security concerns in recent weeks, with fears that the confrontation could spread beyond existing conflict zones.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the United States, Kuwait or Bahrain regarding Iran’s claims. Independent verification of the reported damage has also not been made public.
The latest development is expected to further intensify concerns over regional stability, with military and diplomatic observers closely monitoring the situation for any signs of additional escalation.
