Washington/New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that Washington and New Delhi will resume talks aimed at addressing ongoing trade frictions, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral economic ties.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated: “I am pleased to announce that India and the United States of America are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!”
India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded with optimism, calling the United States a “close friend and natural partner.” In his remarks, Modi expressed confidence that the talks would “unlock the limitless potential” of the India-US partnership, adding that officials from both nations were working to wrap up the discussions as quickly as possible.
Trump’s comments follow recent moves by Washington to impose steep tariffs—50 percent on Indian exports, along with an additional levy of 25 percent on imports of Russian crude purchased by India. The measures had raised concerns about trade tensions between the two countries.
Earlier this week, addressing reporters at the White House, Trump described India-US ties as a “very special relationship” and reiterated his personal bond with Prime Minister Modi. “There is nothing to worry about,” he said, underscoring confidence that the negotiations would lead to a positive outcome.
The revival of talks comes at a crucial time, as both sides look to expand cooperation not only in trade but also in technology, defense, and energy, with leaders on both ends emphasizing the strategic value of their partnership.
