New Delhi: The Unnao rape survivor on Thursday approached the Delhi High Court seeking permission to place additional material on record in the appeal filed by former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar against his conviction in the case.
In her application submitted in Sengar’s appeal, the survivor said she wished to present facts and documents highlighting recent developments, including alleged threats to her and her family. She urged the court to consider these aspects while examining the appeal challenging Sengar’s conviction and sentence.
The survivor also sought directions for recording further evidence of two officials from her school in Unnao to formally certify her date of birth. She alleged that Sengar had influenced the investigation during the trial and relied on forged and false documents related to her age, which, she claimed, were now also being cited in the appeal proceedings.
A division bench comprising Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Madhu Jain noted that Sengar’s appeal is already at the stage of final hearing. The court listed the survivor’s application for consideration on February 25. It directed her counsel to file all relevant documents supporting the plea by January 31 and asked both Sengar and the Central Bureau of Investigation to submit their responses thereafter.
The application follows a December 23, 2025, order of the Delhi High Court that suspended Sengar’s life imprisonment, observing that he had already spent over seven years and five months in custody. However, the Supreme Court stayed that suspension order on December 29, 2025.
Sengar’s sentence was suspended by the High Court pending the outcome of his appeal against the December 2019 trial court verdict that convicted him in the rape case. The crime dates back to 2017, when Sengar was found guilty of kidnapping and raping the minor survivor.
Apart from the rape conviction, Sengar is also serving a 10-year sentence in the custodial death case of the survivor’s father. He has not been granted bail in that matter.
All cases linked to the Unnao incident were transferred from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi on August 1, 2019, following directions from the Supreme Court to ensure a fair trial.
