Ludhiana: A major railway accident was narrowly averted near Ludhiana after a train headed to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra split into two sections during its journey, leaving nearly 1,200 passengers shaken but unharmed.
According to preliminary reports, the train suddenly separated into two parts while in motion. Railway officials said the incident occurred at a relatively controlled speed, preventing what could have turned into a serious disaster. Had the train been running at high speed, the consequences could have been far more severe.
The train was carrying around 1,200 passengers, many of them pilgrims travelling to the Vaishno Devi shrine. Following the incident, railway staff and technical teams rushed to the spot and immediately initiated repair and safety checks.
Passengers remained stranded for some time as railway authorities worked to reconnect the coaches and restore operations. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Officials have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the separation. Preliminary indications suggest a possible technical fault, though the exact reason will be established after a detailed inspection.
Railway authorities said passenger safety remained their top priority and all necessary measures were taken to ensure the journey resumed safely.
