Amritsar (Punjab): The controversy surrounding a Muslim youth rinsing his mouth in the sacred sarovar of the Golden Temple has intensified, with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee deciding to pursue legal action despite the individual issuing multiple apologies.

Confirming the development, SGPC legal advisor Amanbir Singh Siyali said a formal complaint would soon be lodged with the police. He stated that an internal inquiry conducted by the committee concluded that the youth had entered the Golden Temple complex with the intention of committing an act of sacrilege.

According to the SGPC, the youth remained inside the temple premises for nearly 20 minutes but did not pay obeisance at any point, a detail the committee said raised serious concerns about his conduct and intent. The SGPC maintained that such actions undermine the sanctity and religious discipline of the holy shrine.

The committee said the decision to seek registration of an FIR was taken to uphold the dignity and spiritual decorum of the Golden Temple, stressing that religious norms must be respected by all visitors without exception.
