AMRITSAR — A deeply distressing incident of sacrilege involving Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji has been reported in Sathiala village, situated within the Baba Bakala Sahib sub-division of Amritsar. The event, which came to light early Saturday morning at the shrine dedicated to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, has ignited significant resentment and concern among the local residents and the broader Sikh community.
The situation escalated when several holy pages, referred to as Angs of the sacred scripture, were discovered scattered throughout the village streets. Upon investigating the Gurdwara premises, it was found that unidentified individuals had entered the complex, vandalized the property, and intentionally cut the wires of the CCTV surveillance system to avoid detection. The news of the desecration spread rapidly, leading to a large and distressed crowd of villagers gathering at the site to demand justice.
Local authorities were alerted immediately, and a police team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police for Baba Bakala, Arun Sharma, arrived at the scene at approximately 7:30 AM. DSP Sharma and his officers conducted a thorough inspection of the Gurdwara and the surrounding neighbourhood to secure any available forensic evidence. The police have taken custody of the tampered CCTV footage and other potential clues as they begin a rigorous investigation to identify the perpetrators behind this provocative act.
Administrative officials also visited Sathiala to engage with the agitated community and provide assurances that those responsible for the sacrilege would face strict legal consequences. While the atmosphere in the village remains tense, the police have deployed additional personnel to maintain law and order and prevent any further escalation. The local leadership has appealed for peace while the investigation proceeds, emphasizing that such acts against religious sanctity will not be tolerated.
