Ludhiana: Fresh concerns have emerged over the condition of civic infrastructure in Kichlu Nagar after a road caved in for the second time within five days, raising safety fears among local residents.
The repeated collapse has brought the danger closer to residential properties, with residents expressing apprehension that the ground beneath nearby houses could also become unstable if the situation is not addressed immediately.
Locals questioned the quality of construction and maintenance, pointing out that the latest cave-in occurred even without any episode of heavy rainfall. They warned that if roads are collapsing under normal weather conditions, the situation could become far more serious during periods of intense monsoon showers.
Residents have urged the municipal authorities to conduct a detailed inspection of the affected stretch and identify the root cause of the recurring cave-ins, whether due to damaged underground pipelines, poor drainage, or weakened road foundations.
The incident has also disrupted movement in the area, with commuters and pedestrians being advised to avoid the damaged portion of the road until repair work is completed.
People living in the locality have demanded immediate and permanent restoration measures, saying temporary repairs would not be enough to prevent similar incidents in the future. They have also called for a comprehensive audit of roads and underground infrastructure in the area to avert any major mishap.
