Gurdaspur: A wave of grief has swept through Gohat Pokhar village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district after a 34-year-old man died in a road accident in the United States.
The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also known as JP. According to family members, he had moved to the US around eight years ago in search of better opportunities. Over time, he established his own business and also worked as an Uber driver using his private vehicle.
The accident occurred on February 7 when Gurpreet was reportedly dropping passengers at their destination. While driving, he is said to have suffered a sudden medical episode, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car crashed into a road divider, leaving him critically injured. He sustained severe injuries, including damage to his spine.
He was immediately admitted to a hospital, where doctors began treatment. Family members said his condition had shown signs of improvement, and there was hope he would return home within a few days. However, during treatment, he reportedly suffered another attack and passed away.
Gurpreet Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters, who were living with him in the United States. His sister and in-laws are also settled there. Back in the village, his parents and relatives are devastated by the sudden loss.
The family has urged the Punjab and central governments to create better employment opportunities within the state so that young people are not compelled to move abroad for livelihood. They have also appealed for stronger measures to ensure the safety and security of Indians living overseas.
The untimely death has left the village and surrounding areas in deep sorrow, with residents expressing condolences and standing in solidarity with the bereaved family.
