From Early Heat to Sudden Showers: IMD Flags Rain Across 10 States Including Punjab

Chandigarh: After weeks of rising temperatures and unseasonal warmth, weather conditions across India are set to shift once again. Several regions that have been witnessing March-like heat in February may soon experience rainfall, as the country enters a phase of changing atmospheric activity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting rain in 10 states between February 17 and 19, attributing the change to the impact of a fresh western disturbance.

Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are expected over the western Himalayan region and other high-altitude areas on February 17 and 18, 2026. Meanwhile, parts of northwest India’s plains may see light showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

The rainfall warning covers Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Tamil Nadu.

In addition to rainfall, the IMD has cautioned that dense fog may persist in parts of Odisha during early morning hours until February 18, potentially affecting visibility.

In Delhi-NCR, temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius on February 17, making afternoons noticeably warmer. However, this brief warm spell may be followed by a change in weather, with light rain and strong winds blowing at speeds of up to 40 km per hour over the next 24 hours.
