Hoshiarpur: The Punjab State Election Commission has officially announced the election schedule for general elections to four urban local bodies across the state, bringing the Model Code of Conduct into immediate effect within the concerned jurisdictions. The democratic exercise will cover the high-profile Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation alongside the Guru Har Sahai Municipal Council, Jalalabad Municipal Council, and Mamdot Nagar Panchayat situated within the Ferozepur and Fazilka districts.
According to the official programme released by the Commission, the formal nomination process is slated to commence on June 22, 2026, and will run through until June 25, 2026. Aspiring candidates can submit their nomination papers to the designated Returning Officers during the designated window between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily.
Following the submission window, the administrative scrutiny of all received nomination papers will take place on June 26, 2026. Candidates who decide to opt out of the electoral contest will have until 3:00 p.m. on June 27, 2026, to formally withdraw their names from the final ballot.
The actual polling across all four urban civic bodies is scheduled for July 5, 2026, with voting hours set from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. efficiently utilizing Electronic Voting Machines. In an effort to expedite the declaration of results and ensure transparency, the State Election Commission confirmed that the counting of votes will happen immediately after polling concludes right at the respective polling stations. Logistical and administrative frameworks are fully established to guarantee a free, fair, and peaceful voting process.
