Chandigarh: Summer vacations across all government, aided, and private schools in Punjab have officially come to an end, with regular academic sessions scheduled to resume as normal on July 1, 2026. Despite a highly humid and oppressive climate gripping the region, the Punjab Education Department has clarified that there will be no further extension to the summer holidays. The state administration has explicitly advised parents and students to remain cautious and rely solely on official notifications, warning them against misleading claims and unverified holiday rumours circulating on various social media platforms.
While schools prepare to reopen under humid conditions, the India Meteorological Department has predicted a significant shift in regional weather systems starting mid-week. No major weather warning or heatwave alert has been issued for Tuesday, June 30, though minor cloud cover and localized drizzle remain possible in isolated pockets. However, a fresh atmospheric transition will mark the onset of active pre-monsoon currents across Northwest India starting July 1, bringing much-needed relief from the prolonged dry spell and above-normal summer temperatures.
The weather office has subsequently issued a comprehensive yellow alert warning for several northern and eastern districts of Punjab, predicting intense thunderstorms, frequent lightning strikes, and strong gusty winds clocking speeds between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour. The high-priority alert covers a major portion of the state, including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jallandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Roopnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Sangrur, and Pathankot. Because the initial transition phase is expected to bring sudden severe weather and heavy downpours, meteorologists and local administrative bodies have advised citizens—especially young school children and the elderly—to minimize unnecessary outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours.
