Itanagar: Torrential rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh triggered a series of natural disasters, leaving five Indian Army personnel missing after a flash flood swept through a military camp in Dibang Valley and killing four workers in a massive landslide at a road construction site in Upper Subansiri district. According to officials from the State Emergency Operations Centre, both incidents took place during severe downpours on Friday evening, prompting multi-agency search and rescue operations across the affected regions.
The landslide struck a road-cutting project along the Keojaring-Byaching route in Upper Subansiri district, burying several labourers beneath heavy debris and mud. Authorities confirmed four fatalities, identifying the deceased as Tadu Baki, Taji Rai, Markosh Basumatari, and Babul Ali, with Ali’s body having been recovered by rescue workers. Emergency teams from Nacho Police Station, Fire and Emergency Services personnel mobilized from Daporijo, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units have been deployed to clear the rubble and search for any further trapped individuals.
In a separate incident in Dibang Valley district, a flash flood washed away two shelters belonging to the 5th Grenadier at the Pasu Pani Army Camp. Seven soldiers were initially swept away by the surging waters, of whom two were rescued while five remain unaccounted for. Joint search and rescue teams comprising the 5th Grenadier, the 58th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the General Reserve Engineer Force, local police, and SDRF personnel have been dispatched to scour the rugged terrain in an ongoing effort to trace the missing servicemen.
