Chandigarh: A persistent heatwave continues to affect several parts of Punjab, with day temperatures remaining higher than the seasonal average. According to the Meteorological Department, no significant change in temperature has been recorded over the last 24 hours, with the mercury hovering around 36°C across the state. However, a slight drop is anticipated over the next few days.

The highest temperature in the state was reported from Samrala (Ludhiana district), where the maximum soared to 38.9°C, making it the hottest location in Punjab on Sunday. Close behind were Bathinda (37.6°C) and Patiala (35.8°C). Meanwhile, Amritsar and Ludhiana each reported a high of 35.6°C.

Here is a breakdown of temperatures from various cities:

City Max (°C) Min (°C)
Amritsar 35.6 23.9
Ludhiana 35.6 24.6
Patiala 35.8 26.2
Pathankot 35.9 24.4
Bathinda 37.6 25.7
Gurdaspur 34.0 24.5
Samrala 38.9 26.1

No Rain, But Temperatures to Drop Slightly

Meteorological experts predict dry conditions will prevail across Punjab for the next few days, with no chances of rainfall. However, the maximum temperature is expected to gradually dip by about 2°C over the next four days, bringing some respite from the intense heat.

“The temperatures are likely to settle around 34°C by the weekend, which would offer a marginal but noticeable relief,” officials said.

Humidity Levels Improving

While humidity levels were peaking near 90% during the monsoon, they have now moderated to a range between 60% and 80%, easing the discomfort caused by sultry conditions.

Despite the continued absence of rainfall, the drier air and falling temperatures are expected to improve outdoor conditions. Health experts continue to advise people to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take necessary precautions as the heatwave persists.

The state is expected to return to near-normal temperature levels by early next week if the current weather pattern holds.
