Chandigarh: The Punjab Police Department will directly recruit 3,400 constables next year, according to an announcement made by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Preparations for the recruitment process have already begun, with orders issued to launch the drive at the earliest.

In a virtual meeting with police commissioners, SSPs, and SHOs, the DGP discussed upcoming plans and emphasized the state government’s commitment to addressing staff shortages. To strengthen the force, the Punjab government has approved the creation of 1,600 new posts ranging from Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) to Inspector, including 150 Inspectors, 450 Sub-Inspectors, and 1,000 ASIs through promotions.

Additionally, 4,500 more posts will be filled at the district level in a phased manner, ensuring enhanced manpower across the state.

During the meeting, DGP Yadav also directed officials to prepare a special action plan to maintain peace during the festive season. He instructed officers to crack down fearlessly on gangsters, drug traffickers, and anti-social elements, while warning that corruption in the force will not be tolerated.
