Tarn Taran: In a major crackdown on the trans-border drug trade, the Tarn Taran police have arrested a smuggler and recovered 5.101 kg of heroin. The accused has been identified as Bahadur Singh, a resident of Bidhi Chand Chhina village. This operation is part of the ongoing “zero tolerance” policy against drugs and gangsters initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and directed by DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
The arrest was executed by the CIA staff of Tarn Taran under the supervision of DIG Ferozepur Range Snehdeep Sharma and SSP Tarn Taran Surendra Lamba. Acting on a combination of technical and human intelligence, a team led by Inspector Rupinderpal Singh intercepted the accused at a special checkpoint in the Gaggobuha area. Bahadur Singh was apprehended while travelling on his Activa scooter (bearing registration number PB46-AJ-8796) to deliver the illicit consignment.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused maintained active links with Pakistani smugglers to facilitate the transport of heroin across the international border. He was reportedly responsible for distributing these high-grade narcotics across various districts of Punjab, including Tarn Taran. Along with the 5.101 kg of heroin, the police have also impounded the scooter used in the crime.
A formal case (FIR No. 61) has been registered against Bahadur Singh at the Jhabal police station under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act. The police are currently presenting the accused in court to seek remand for further interrogation. Officials believe that his custodial questioning will lead to more significant disclosures regarding the wider network of international drug trafficking and local distribution modules operating in the border state.
