CHANDIGARH — The Punjab Government has officially announced a revision in the operating hours for all government schools across the province, effective from March 1 to March 31, 2026. This decision, prompted by transitioning weather patterns, aims to align school schedules with the changing climate as the region moves further into the spring season.

Under the new directives, primary schools will now operate from 8:30 AM until 2:30 PM. For middle, high, and senior secondary schools, the hours have been set from 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM. The shift ensures that students and staff can manage their commutes more effectively as daylight hours increase and the early morning chill begins to subside.

The Education Department has issued stern instructions to all school heads to ensure the strict implementation of these hours. Officials stated that regular attendance must be prioritized and that any negligence in following the revised schedule will not be tolerated. This annual adjustment is part of the state’s effort to provide a comfortable learning environment for students during the seasonal transition.
