SALANA BET / MACHHIWARA SAHIB — The village of Salana Bet, near Machhiwara Sahib, is engulfed in grief following the news that Battalion Havildar Manager (BHM) Rajwinder Singh, 39, was martyred in a tragic road accident while performing his duties in Rajasthan. The veteran soldier, who had dedicated 19 years of his life to the Indian Army, met with the fatal accident on the afternoon of March 6 while stationed with the 31 Field Regiment in Jaisalmer.
The loss has left a profound void in the lives of his family members, including his wife, two young sons, and his elderly mother. Rajwinder’s father had passed away previously, leaving the soldier as the primary support for his household. His mortal remains arrived at his ancestral village on Sunday, March 8, 2026, where the final rites are being performed with full military and state honours.
Local residents and dignitaries have expressed their deep condolences, describing the late BHM as a dedicated professional and a brave son of the soil. As the village gathers to bid a final farewell, the atmosphere remains sombre, reflecting the heavy toll of his untimely demise on the local community. The Punjab government is expected to provide support to the bereaved family in recognition of his nearly two decades of selfless service to the nation.
