Chandigarh: Marking the occasion of International Women’s Day, Surya Kant participated in a walkathon in Chandigarh on Sunday, highlighting the importance of spreading awareness about women’s rights and empowerment.

The event began near the police post at Sukhna Lake and concluded at the iconic Open Hand Monument, covering a stretch of nearly 2.5 kilometres. Several members of the legal community, including young advocates and judges, joined the walk in support of the cause.

Speaking to the media after completing the walk, Justice Kant expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation. He noted that initiatives like the walkathon play an important role in encouraging dialogue and public awareness about women’s rights. According to him, even small efforts can contribute to building a more informed and equitable society.

The programme was organised as part of the events surrounding India International Disputes Week. Alongside the walkathon, a tree plantation drive was also conducted to promote environmental awareness.

Sheel Nagu also attended the event and joined participants in the walk, lending support to the initiative.

The walkathon served as a symbolic step toward reinforcing the message of equality and respect for women while encouraging community participation in advancing these values.
