PATHANKOT — The decomposed body of a 25-year-old youth, who had been missing for five days, was found hanging from a tree on Friday, March 13, 2026, in the forests of village Aner. The deceased, identified as Angrez Singh, a resident of Aner who worked as a welder in Mukerian, has become the center of a brewing controversy involving allegations of foul play and systemic police apathy.

The discovery has sparked outrage among local residents and the victim’s family, who claim that the youth did not commit suicide but was murdered and staged to look like a self-inflicted death.

The Disappearance: Five Days of Uncertainty

According to family members, Angrez Singh left home for work on the morning of March 8, 2026, but never returned.

  • Mysterious Phone Calls: The owner of the welding shop where Angrez worked informed the family that on the day he vanished, Angrez appeared visibly “terrified.” He reportedly received multiple phone calls throughout the afternoon that left him shaken.

  • Early Departure: Following these calls, he requested a half-day leave at 2:30 PM and departed, marking the last time he was seen alive.

Allegations of Administrative Apathy

The family has leveled serious charges against the Nangal Bhoor Police Station, accusing officers of a “shuffling” tactic that delayed the investigation.

  • Jurisdiction Games: When the family tried to file a missing person report, Nangal Bhoor police allegedly redirected them to Mukerian. When they reached Mukerian, they were sent back to Nangal Bhoor.

  • Delayed Action: Relatives argue that if the police had acted on the initial complaint rather than arguing over jurisdiction, Angrez might still be alive.

  • Community Search: It was ultimately a local Gujjar family who spotted Angrez’s motorcycle parked outside the forest, which led the villagers and the Sarpanch to discover the body.

Official Investigation and “Hanging” Questions

The body was so badly decomposed that the family had to identify him by his clothing. Following the intervention of the SSP Pathankot, a formal case has finally been registered and the body has been sent for a post-mortem at the Civil Hospital.

DSP (Urban) Jagdish Atri reached the spot to manage the rising tensions. He assured the public that:

  1. Multiple Angles: The investigation is considering both suicide and the family’s murder suspicion.

  2. Phone Records: The mysterious calls received by Angrez on March 8 are being traced.

  3. Accountability: If any police personnel are found guilty of negligence or “misleading” the family during the initial reporting phase, strict departmental action will be taken.
