Kapurthala: A major fire erupted early Thursday morning at a mattress manufacturing unit located on Jalandhar Road near Nurpur Dona village, sending massive plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky—so intense that it was reportedly visible from as far as 20 kilometers away in Jalandhar.

The blaze, which broke out around 8:25 AM, quickly consumed the contents of the factory, destroying goods worth several lakhs of rupees. Though no casualties have been reported, the factory premises have suffered significant damage.

Fire Teams Battle Blaze for Hours

Responding swiftly to the emergency call, three fire tenders and a 10-member firefighting crew reached the scene within minutes. Fire Officer Gurpreet Singh, who led the response, confirmed that his team arrived at 8:26 AM and has been attempting to bring the situation under control for over two hours.

“The intensity of the fire was such that visibility on the nearby highway was affected,” said an official from the Kapurthala fire department.

DSP Deepkaran Singh also visited the site to oversee safety measures and coordinate with emergency services.
