Gurdaspur: The Punjab Police neutralized the prime suspect in the murder of two police officials during a violent encounter in Gurdaspur on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Ranjit Singh, was killed following a shootout within the jurisdiction of the Purana Shalla police station.
The encounter broke out while police teams were pursuing suspects involved in the recent killings of ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar at the Adian police post. During the confrontation, Ranjit Singh reportedly opened fire, injuring CIA Staff In-charge Gurmeet Singh in the arm. In the ensuing chaos, a vehicle belonging to the SHO of Dorangla also overturned. Ranjit Singh sustained gunshot wounds during the retaliatory fire and was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Prior to the encounter, the police had arrested Dilawar Singh from Alinangal village. Information gathered during his interrogation led authorities to Ranjit Singh and another suspect, Inderjit Singh, both residents of Adian village. This case gained significant attention after a group calling itself “Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindostan” reportedly claimed responsibility for the initial murders of the two policemen.
