Hoshiarpur: In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Hoshiarpur District Police on Monday, April 20, 2026, successfully dismantled an inter-state and foreign-linked narcotics and illegal arms module. Acting on specific intelligence, authorities apprehended four accused individuals and recovered a massive haul, including 9.925 kg of heroin, two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, confirmed that the preliminary investigation identified the arrested individuals as local handlers for foreign-based gangsters. These operatives were allegedly managing the logistics for drug trafficking and the distribution of illegal weapons across the region. A formal FIR has been registered at the Garhshankar Police Station in Hoshiarpur under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

This operation is part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign. Just two days prior, the state special operations cell in Amritsar had made a record seizure of over 64 kg of heroin, indicating a heightened period of enforcement against cross-border smuggling rings. Police officials stated that further investigations are currently underway to trace the “forward and backward linkages” of the module to identify the financiers and kingpins operating from abroad.
