Heavy Rains in Pathankot Cause Floods as Madhopur Floodgates Collapse

Pathankot: Continuous rainfall over the past ten days has pushed several districts in Punjab, including Pathankot, into flood-like conditions. Residents of the Sujanpur and Bhoa assembly areas are struggling to cope with the rising water levels.

Several villages along the Ravi, Jalalia, and Uj rivers have been submerged, causing widespread destruction to crops. Farmers report total loss of their harvests, while livestock fodder has also been swept away by the rivers.

Water has entered homes in multiple villages, damaging personal belongings. Yesterday, three flood-control gates in Madhopur collapsed, adding to the crisis. The breach has left the health department struggling to manage the situation, as water from the Ravi River now flows uncontrollably, threatening further damage in Sujanpur and Bhoa areas.

Speaking about healthcare readiness, SMO Sunil Chand of the Civil Hospital Pathankot confirmed that the hospital is fully prepared to handle any emergencies arising from the floods. He urged residents affected by floodwaters to seek immediate treatment at the hospital, assuring that all medical care will be provided free of charge. Chand emphasized that the hospital is fully equipped to ensure no patient suffers due to lack of facilities.
