Chandigarh: Giani Harpreet Singh, president of the Akali Dal Reformed, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a comprehensive central probe into drug trafficking networks, organized gangsterism, and alleged political patronage in Punjab. In his communication, the regional leader expressed deep alarm over the deteriorating narcotics situation in the state, asserting that the unchecked proliferation of illicit substances is severely damaging the youth while eroding Punjab’s social and economic stability.
Stressing that Punjab’s status as a critical international border state elevates contraband smuggling into a grave national security concern, Giani Harpreet Singh called for immediate intervention by central investigative bodies. He urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate an impartial, high-level inquiry involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Border Security Force (BSF) to dismantle supply syndicates and expose ties between traffickers, criminal gangs, and political figures providing operational protection.
In addition to organized crime and narcotics networks, the representation raised concerns over reports of alleged unlawful religious conversions occurring across the state. Giani Harpreet Singh sought a thorough investigation into these activities, maintaining that any individuals or organizations employing coercion, financial inducements, or deceitful tactics must be held accountable and subjected to stringent legal action under applicable laws. He urged the Union Home Minister to take decisive, structured steps to restore law and order and safeguard the state’s security fabric.
