Tarn Taran (Punjab): Three members of the same family died due to suffocation while sleeping in their house at Alipur village in Tarn Taran district, after toxic fumes from a fire lit to keep warm filled the room, police officials said on Sunday.

According to information, the family had lit a fire inside their room late at night to protect themselves from the biting cold. During the night, poisonous gases released from the fire accumulated inside the closed room. As the family members were asleep, they failed to realise the danger, leading to the tragic loss of three lives on the spot.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Alipur village, with a deep sense of mourning prevailing among residents. A 10-year-old child, who was also present in the room at the time of the incident, was found alive but in a critical condition. The child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where treatment is currently underway.

Local authorities reached the spot soon after receiving information and have initiated further proceedings. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of lighting fires indoors during winter without proper ventilation.
