Amritsar: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is scheduled to arrive in Amritsar today, May 7, 2026, as part of his ongoing four-day Shukrana Yatra. The Chief Minister is traveling to the holy city to pay obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib, following the successful implementation of the state’s rigorous new anti-sacrilege legislation. This journey serves as a formal act of thanksgiving to the Almighty for the passage of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026, which introduces life imprisonment for those convicted of desecrating the holy scriptures.
Setting out from Jalandhar earlier this morning, the Chief Minister’s motorcade is making several stops across the Majha region, including Adampur and Baba Bakala, before its anticipated arrival at the Golden Temple. Local authorities have coordinated extensive security arrangements and traffic diversions to accommodate the crowds of supporters and devotees expected to greet the Chief Minister upon his entry into the city. The visit to the Golden Temple is considered a pivotal moment of the yatra, as it represents a spiritual tribute at the highest seat of Sikh temporal authority.
During the initial stages of the march, the Chief Minister reiterated that the enactment of the new law was a response to the long-standing demands of the public for justice and the protection of religious sentiments. He has consistently maintained that the legislation is designed to act as a permanent deterrent against activities intended to incite communal tension in the province. Following his prayers at Sri Darbar Sahib, the Chief Minister is expected to continue his journey through Tarn Taran and Zira, with the final conclusion of the Shukrana Yatra slated for May 9 at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
