Faridkot: Punjab Police Counter Intelligence has foiled a suspected terror plot ahead of the annual Baba Farid Aagman Purb festival with the arrest of a young man carrying two live hand grenades in Faridkot. The suspect has been identified as Navjot Singh, also known as Nav, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar who holds permanent residency status in Canada. The interception took place during a targeted security operation near Nehru Stadium.
Security agencies suspect that the operative maintains direct links with Pakistan-backed terror outfits and that the recovered ordnance was smuggled across the international border using unmanned aerial vehicles. Following the seizure, the State Special Operation Cell registered a formal first information report against the accused at the Fazilka police station under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
The breakthrough comes on the eve of the five-day Baba Farid Aagman Purb celebrations, prompting specialized intelligence units to expand surveillance across sensitive locations. Investigators are currently mapping the operative’s digital communications, cross-border handlers, local associates, and intended strike targets in order to unravel the wider network.
The suspect’s father, Sooba Singh, stated that his son had arrived in India from Canada on September 12. According to him, Navjot mentioned receiving a parcel on Thursday evening, prompting both of them to visit Sadiq Chowk, where law enforcement officials intercepted them and transferred them to the local crime investigation agency facility. While the father was released later that night, Navjot was formally placed under arrest as senior officers continue interrogation to determine the source of the explosive consignment.
