Chandigarh: Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia suffered a major setback after the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected his bail plea in the disproportionate assets case. With the plea dismissed, Majithia—who has been in jail for the past five months following his arrest by the Vigilance Bureau on June 25—will now have to approach the Supreme Court for relief.

Meanwhile, the Mohali court will today hear the plea to declare Majithia’s brother-in-law, Gajpat Singh Grewal, a proclaimed offender. Grewal has already been named as an accused, and his lawyer is expected to file a response during the hearing.

The Vigilance Bureau has already filed the chargesheet in the case. The document reportedly includes statements from several Akali Dal and BJP leaders. Officials claim the chargesheet was filed within the stipulated time, and the investigation involved examining records of nearly 400 bank accounts over the past ten years. The agency has also listed around 200 witnesses in the case.
