Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has filed a formal complaint with the State Election Commission over a viral audio clip allegedly featuring Patiala SSP Varun Sharma instructing police officers on handling Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections. The party has demanded the immediate suspension of the SSP and a national-level investigation into what it calls a “criminal conspiracy” to influence the ongoing polls in favour of the ruling party.

Patiala Police, however, has denied the authenticity of the clip. In a statement posted on social media, the police said the audio shared by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal is an AI-generated and fake creation meant to mislead the public, spread disinformation, and disturb law and order. The police added that strict action will be taken against those involved in circulating the clip and urged citizens not to fall for misinformation. The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court is set to hear the matter this afternoon. Senior SAD leader Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said the issue was brought before the Chief Justice earlier in the day, following which the court agreed to take up the case at 1 pm.
