Amritsar: Amritsar Rural Police have arrested seven people and seized 14 sophisticated pistols and 20 kilograms of heroin during an operation targeting alleged illegal arms and narcotics trafficking networks.
According to information released by Punjab Police, the operation uncovered suspected links between weapons trafficking and drug smuggling. Investigators are now working to establish how the seized contraband was sourced and transported, identify its intended recipients and trace other people allegedly connected to the network.
The recoveries have prompted further investigation into the suspected supply chain and the possible involvement of organised criminal groups.
Police Probe Suspected Foreign-Based Handler
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were allegedly in contact with a handler based abroad, according to the police.
The handler is suspected of facilitating the movement of illegal arms consignments for distribution among criminal elements. Investigators are examining the alleged connections to determine how the weapons were procured, transported and supplied.
Police are also attempting to identify individuals who may have coordinated the alleged operations within Punjab and elsewhere. However, the nature and extent of the suspected foreign links are yet to be established through the investigation.
FIRs Registered At Gharinda And Kathunangal Police Stations
Police have registered separate FIRs at Gharinda and Kathunangal police stations in connection with the arrests and recoveries.
The investigation is focused on establishing both the backward and forward linkages of the suspected network. This includes tracing the origins of the 14 pistols and the heroin, identifying potential recipients and examining whether the accused were connected to other criminal groups.
Investigators are also looking into whether the alleged activities were coordinated through a larger organised supply chain or involved separate operations.
Investigation Continues To Trace Wider Network
The seizure of firearms and a substantial quantity of heroin marks a significant development in the ongoing action against suspected arms and narcotics trafficking in the Amritsar region.
Punjab Police have said their efforts are aimed at disrupting networks involved in illegal weapons distribution, drug smuggling and organised crime. Identifying the people allegedly responsible for sourcing and distributing the contraband remains a key part of the investigation.
While seven people have been arrested, police are continuing their inquiry to determine the full extent of the alleged operation and establish whether additional suspects were involved.
The allegations against the accused will be examined through the legal process. Further details about the suspected network and its alleged foreign connections are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
