Chandigarh: A major development has emerged in the case involving senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. His legal team has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking to place on record a vigilance application dated November 16, which concerns the ongoing case. The High Court had earlier reserved its decision on Majithia’s bail plea.
On November 20, the High Court reserved its verdict on the bail petition after the Punjab government opposed his request. The state argued that the investigation was still underway and therefore bail should not be granted.
However, within a week of the verdict being reserved, the investigating officer filed an application before a Mohali lower court on November 26, stating that the investigation in Majithia’s case had been completed.
Majithia’s lawyers have now moved the High Court to bring this Mohali court application on record, alleging that the government misled the High Court by claiming the investigation was still ongoing, while acknowledging completion of the investigation before the lower court.
Taking note of the matter, the High Court questioned the Punjab government, asking: “What is this? How could you claim that the investigation is still pending when this petition shows it is complete?”
The state opposed Majithia’s application, arguing that since the hearing is over and the verdict is reserved, no new document should be taken on record. The High Court, however, rejected the government’s objections and admitted the petition today.
