Akali Dal Leader’s House Targeted in Firing Incident in Samana After Extortion Threat

Samana (Punjab): A firing incident was reported at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Hardeep Singh in Gulzarapura Thrua village of Samana, triggering concern in the area. According to initial information, unidentified assailants opened fire at the house late at night, days after the leader allegedly received an extortion threat.

Sources said Hardeep Singh had earlier received a phone call demanding ₹2 crore as extortion money. The callers had allegedly threatened to kill him and his son if the demand was not met. Following the threat, the firing incident took place at his residence, prompting police action.

Based on a complaint filed by Nawab Singh, the Patran police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The incident reportedly occurred after midnight on December 7, during which several rounds were fired at the house.

CCTV footage from the area has surfaced. While the attackers are not clearly visible due to darkness, the sound of gunfire can be distinctly heard in the video, police said.

Former sarpanch Hardeep Singh said he was deeply disturbed by the incident. “We have no enmity with anyone. Despite that, such an attack is worrying,” he said over the phone. He added that he has full faith in the police and hopes the culprits will be arrested soon.

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify and trace the attackers, and further investigation is in progress.
